  • Why Nigerians are Protesting Against SARS Police Brutality is a video about EndSARS in Nigeria. I share my experience with the police in Lagos, Nigeria. I also go to the streets to give people a chance to share their experience with the notorious police unit called SARS police in Nigeria.

    Nice video!
I see some confusion in the comments and I thought it might be useful to provide some context for non-Nigerians or Nigerians in the diaspora. This will be a little difficult, as there are some nuances that cannot be captured in just a few sentences. But here we go:
    1. Nigeria has many wealthy or privileged people, along with many more poor people. There’s very little in between.
    2. Many wealthy people in Nigeria have become wealthy or are perceived to have become wealthy through corruption i.e. stealing Nigerian commonwealth directly through participation in or by association with government at all levels, and in all regions of Nigeria.
    3. Most public servants, including the Nigerian police, are grossly underpaid. Many believe this is why corruption marches on undeterred in Nigeria.
    4. Civilian ownership of guns is mostly illegal in Nigeria - there might be exceptions for homemade guns used by local hunters.
    5. The Nigerian Police Force is a Federal institution, directly under the Nigerian Executive branch (or Presidency) through the Ministry of Police Affairs or equivalent. Even though Nigeria has 36 states, there is no State police in Nigeria. For emphasis, the Nigerian President controls the police force.
    6. SARS is an acronym for the Special Anti-robbery Squad of the Nigerian police.
    7. The original mandate was to tackle the proliferation of armed robbery in major cities (starting with Lagos).
    8. The Nigerian police, especially lower level officers, being grossly underpaid, generally resort to extortion of Nigerians.
    9. The SARS unit (a plain clothes unit) has now become almost indistinguishable from the problem they were created to solve i.e. armed robbery i.e. they rob and kill innocent citizens in broad daylight.
    10. The youth in Nigeria are especially affected, because the SARS unit profiles them based on clothes they wear, hairstyles, cars they drive etc. This is natural, since there's a high probability that those who drive nice cars, are fashionable etc. will likely have money to be extorted. And, since they're young, its unlikely they're government officials with influence (which could lead to repercussions)..
    Hope this helps someone.

On my way to the supermarket , my friend and I came down from the car and walked towards the entrance of the shop we were going to, then this Sars guys just crossed us with a bus and forced us inside the bus without any proper warrant , I showed them my U.S ID and they let us go.
if I was not with my US ID what would have been my fate .
They asked us where we coming from and where we going to and I told them am a computer engineer and also work in the medical field, they said I was lying, that i look to fresh and young. They asked for money I told them no. But my frd was so scared, I just had to give them and they let us go.

Great to see unity amongst the youth( one voice) and the next hurdle is election( ensure you vote and not sell your right)Kudos Tayo 👏🏽👏🏽

There's a disconnect between our so called leaders and youths of Nigeria. All this agitation is actually heading in an ultimate direction.. youths want to take control of their own future, they want freedom and opportunities for a better life. They're tired of the 60 years of disappointment and deciet. WE have no other country, a land that can be as beautiful and prosperous as canada, uae, usa and yet everybody is fleeing abroad in droves with their families ..all due to bad leadership and mismanagement of our entire wealth. Shame@60.

I completely understand what the youths are trying to accomplish but the usa isnt the best theres always protesting here for blm because theres police burtaulity here against black people. Also the usa has the highest covid-19 cases in the world and there's bad roads in the usa just like anywhere else so Nigeria has just as much potential to be much better than these other countries you mentioned the problem is the old heads in government there in naija but I am hopeful that Nigeria will rise up because the world is watching and will help Nigeria in there fight. God bless.

SARS, like the name suggest is a special force. S- Special. A- Anti. R- Robbery. S- Squad. They are a Special Police Force Unit, just like the FBI in the states. Difference is, they harass citizens just because they look fly.

@@nw9801 my thought is they could be supported in some way by the west (with a LONG history of rac1st policies) so basically yeah, they would be supported by rac1sts. I don’t know if they are a Nigerian govt agency or not, but the question remains, where does the funding for this “special” force come from?

Everyone watching, please check out and research the links Tayo has attached to this video. We need to support our brethren and families in Nigeria. The type of brain dead, numb ppl controlling the government in Nigeria (and most African countries) are the kind that need to be overwhelmed by the ppl, otherwise they’re tone-deaf and quite frankly, lack compassion.
Every single Nigerian must play their part to help fix the problems now. This is just the seed, the opening, the starting point.
Mentally lazy leaders are not fit to govern intelligent, resourceful, dynamic, energetic, driven, hardworking ppl like Nigerians.🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

Richard Farrey - Why would anyone elect ppl in their 70’s??? Just by human nature alone, mental and physical decline has already begun to occur. How can governors or presidents in their 70’s approaching 80’s be able to keep up with all of the rapid geopolitical and other changes taking place in the world.
